Edgerton, population 4,993, owns an Industrial Park of 100 acres. State Highways 51 and 59 pass through the city and connect with Interstate 90 two miles away. Numerous trucking firms and a railroad provide freight service. Air service is supplied by the Rock County Airport 15 miles south and the Madison Airport 30 miles north. Jana's Airport, a private airport, three miles north of Edgerton is open to the public. |

Children come first in the Edgerton Community Schools. Needs, interests and abilities of the 1800 students are met through a wealth of special programs. Classroom enrichment, special studies, Advance Placement courses, math and reading promotions, outdoor education, and summer school are among the many important extras that add to traditional offerings. Library
The Edgerton Public Library at 101 Albion Street offers a variety of services for adults and children. People may use books, videos, recorded books, magazines, newspapers, and obituary and cemetery indexes. The library offers free Internet use to the community, interlibrary loan services for resource sharing among other libraries, programming for children of all ages, and homebound service for those who are unable to get to the library. The library is open seven days per week, six days per week in summer. It is a member of the Arrowhead Library System.
Government
The City of Edgerton's government structure consists of a city council / Mayor / Administrator. The six council members are elected by wards. The police department consists of ten officers, and fire protectection consists of 37 volunteers, 2 full time drivers, 3 pumpers, 1250, 1000, 750 GPM capacity; 1 tanker, 1500; 1 rescue vehicle; one 4WD grass fire unit.
Utilities
Edgerton's utilities consist of electric service and gas provided by Alliant Energy, water and water treatment provided by the city, and solid waste is handled by 6 private contractors, including one handling hazardous waste. Superior Services provides pick-up for residential waste.

History
Nestled in the rock-ribbed hills of Southern Wisconsin is our progressive and picturesque town. Over one hundred years ago, Indians were attracted to the area by the abundance of wildlife and berries, the nearby navigable waterways, fertile soil and temperate climate. By the 1840's, pioneers from the East had come into the area, including the William Bliven family, the first white settlers in what would become the city of Edgerton. The railroad came to the area in 1853 and in 1859 the city was named after the engineer of the railroad project, Benjamin Edgerton.
| By the turn of the century, Edgerton was referred to as "The Tobacco Capital of the World," with tobacco barons coming to the area to buy and sell the commodity. Only a few of the original 52 tobacco warehouses, made of locally produced brick, still stand, but several of those which remain are being used for the storage of tobacco and for other local businesses. To this day, the Edgerton community celebrates annually Tobacco Heritage Days. |
